What happens in therapy sessions?
Your child will join Donna/Chloe in the play room; there is a reception area where you are welcome to wait.
Within each session, your child will choose how they would like to use their time with me. Unless there are safeguarding issues, the content of the session will remain confidential.
Although the child chooses what we do, there are boundaries within the play room to keep us safe.
Donna/Chloe will keep all of your child's creations until our last session; they can then bring everything that they have made home with them.
When will my child see the Play Therapist/Counsellor?
Each session will be held at the same time, day and venue each week. Each session will be 40 - 45minutes depending upon the age of your child.
We will agree the session times during our initial meeting.
If it's confidential, how will I be able to help my child?
Following sessions, Donna/Chloe will contact you if your child is working on important themes, has a emotional outpouring or if she is asked by your child to share something in particular. We will agree a method of contact before I begin working with your family.
Children will often bring things up within sessions and then talk things through at home.
How many sessions will my child have with the Play Therapist/Counsellor?
We plan for 12 sessions of Play Therapy/Counselling. By around session 8 or 9, it becomes apparent if your child will need more than the planned 12 sessions. At this point, we will check with you if you also think that more sessions are necessary. Additional sessions are agreed in advance.
What if I have concerns?
Please call us to discuss any concerns that you have about your child between sessions. We will work together to support your child as they work through the difficulties that they are experiencing.
